Dinesh's wife started washing clothes in Pokhariya pond and both the daughters started bathing. While bathing, Shikha Kishore saw younger daughter Tanvi Kishore drowning and reached to save her. In no time, mother Lata Devi, neighbor Shanti Das, saved the daughters and while saving each other, all four drowned in the water one by one. Meanwhile, a person who had reached the pond for some work at the other end of the pond saw these people and shouted loudly. On hearing the shouts, a large number of people jumped into the pond and all of them were taken out of the pond and taken to a private nursing home in Purulia, West Bengal for better treatment, where after preliminary examination, the doctor declared all four dead. After postmortem of all four, the dead bodies were brought to the village.
The Zila Parishad Sahayak lived with his family in Bokaro:
The Zila Parishad Sahayak lived with his family in Bokaro quarters. His elder daughter was a student of class nine and younger daughter was a student of class five at DPS Chas. Villagers are speculating that the incident happened due to his living in the city environment and his lack of swimming experience due to sudden bathing in the pond. Apart from this, last year the said pond was renovated by the Land Conservation Department, in which it was estimated that the children and family members were not able to live there due to its excessive depth.
They had reached the village a week ago:
Dinesh's wife and daughters had reached a week ago to attend a wedding ceremony in the Gotiya. He was supposed to go on Tuesday but his daughter refused to go for some reason, so Dilip went to the Zila Parishad alone for duty. It is being told that his mother Lata was washing clothes and that her daughters did not know how to swim and were unaware of the depth of the water in the pond.
